The Filling Station at Desa Sri Hartamas: Cafe review

The Filling Station is fuelled by a cool concept – a full-fledged cafe with a surprisingly ambitious menu inside a petrol station.

You can customise your own platters of rice, pasta or salad here, mixing and matching multiple bases, toppings and drizzles – we had nasi lemak with lamb curry (RM15.90), spaghetti aglio olio with shrimp, zucchini noodles and broccoli (RM21.90) and organic quinoa tabbouleh with poached eggs, grilled sweet potatoes, tempeh and a lime-cilantro hummus-inspired dressing (RM20.90).

The caveat of this quick-service fix is that some ingredients may have been prepared too far in advance to taste satisfyingly fresh, and there might be a lack of cohesive flavours in certain combinations; the seasonings and sauces also tasted off-balance for our pasta and quinoa.

There’s space for fine-tuning, though on the bright side, the service team is genuinely warm and efficient. The Filling Station has plenty of potential, and we hope to see it pop up in more Shell station locations in the months to come.
