CHAZE At Marquee at Menara Lien Hoe, Persiaran Tropicana: Lounge Review
One of PJ’s most intriguing new F&B hubs is taking shape: Marquee @ Menara Lien Hoe seeks to showcase six distinctive F&B concepts on Persiaran Tropicana, kicking off this month with CHAZE, a sultry lounge inspired by a suave persona. Chaze the man loves hosting soirees, has a keenly honed fashion sense, & appreciates fine music, cocktails & distilled beverages – CHAZE the lounge is meant to be this hypothetical man’s sanctuary, welcoming like-minded guests for a memorable night out.
CHAZE requires a bit of extra effort to trace, but it’s worth the hunt – take the stairs up from Marquee’s street-level entrance, then walk through a hallway to an unmarked door that slides open to reveal Chaze’s Wardrobe, with a built-in closet that showcases the in-season apparel of local designers. Velvet drapes on your left lead to the striking long Bar & the spacious Living Hall, with sections conceived to evoke a secret loft for 90 patrons, complete with a Fun Nook with tufted booths & the temptation of table tennis, Snug Corner with Chesterfield sofas & a pool table, plus a DJ Space with a camouflaged console.
CHAZE’s Play Room
Wait, there’s more: A hidden space within a hidden space – CHAZE’s Play Room can be accessed exclusively through a code on a safe that changes everyday. This self-contained private room accommodates up to 30 patrons, features karaoke, darts & pool facilities, & boasts its own separate exit & restroom. Guest can even try their hand here at being their own mixologist, shaking up self-created cocktails. It’s an intimate haven for letting your hair down & enjoying some lively laughter with friends.
CHAZE keeps the bar high with cocktails that thrive on the spirit of experimentation: Start with the signature Chaze’s Concoction (RM28), with smoky-sweet complexities of Mezcal, house-made honey-pineapple syrup, Parfait d’Amour liqueur, lavender bitters, chilli flakes & a hint of vanilla, crowned with salted pistachios. Then move on to two metal-cupped cocktails: Sean Maximus Copper (RM38), featuring vodka, blended rum, Framboise liqueur, pure Junmai sake, kaffir leaves, raspberry puree & salted cashews served in a copper mug, & Mint Julep Popsicle (RM32), an adroitly balanced blend of oaky bourbon, Jerry Thomas bitters, Cockburn’s Special Reserve port wine ice pops, lime juice & mint leaves presented in a frosty silver cup.
For gleeful visual flair, check out The Pop Star (RM32), a modified Margarita made with tequila, Junmai-Daiginjo sake, peach puree, orange marmalade, lemon bitters & soda, partnered with popcorn for a slightly savoury snacking twist. The Glasgow Jar (RM38) also makes an impression – a rich Scotch whisky cocktail bolstered with butterscotch liquor, Southern Comfort, vermouth, Old Time Aromatic bitters, Sprite, apple & lime juice, capped with a slice of beef jerky for a potent pairing. And of course, a Tiki cocktail will bring cheer to every escapade – the Ooga Booga Meets Tiki (RM38) is a delicious combo of both Brazilian rum & spiced rum, conveying candied caramel & aged aromas, mingled with the smooth fruitiness of Pimm’s No. 1, Pamplemousse Rose grapefruit liqueur, orange juice, apple juice & baked apple bitters – intoxicating in more than one respect. CHAZE also offers a premium range of spirits, from American to Asian whiskies, craft beers to wines, Cognac to Champagne.
CHAZE’s bites selection seems unassuming at first glance, but everything we tried was impeccably executed – the mushroom pizza was a masterwork of earthiness, with its 11-inch crispy-thin crust blanketed with portobello, button & shimeji mushrooms, plus truffle oil, mozzarella cheese & rocket leaves (RM24.90). We also couldn’t stop munching on the fried chicken wings, marinated with herbs & Cajun spices, served with crudites & a ginger scallion pesto dip (RM18.90), tortilla chips with a chile con queso creamy-spicy cheese dip (RM17.90) & freshly cooked straight-cut fries tossed with white truffle oil (RM17.90). All proved excellent representatives of bar snacks, especially with kitchen-made dipping sauces that illustrated extra thought & effort by CHAZE’s team, many of whom comprise experienced veterans from respected F&B brands across the Klang Valley.
CHAZE is now open, while Marquee’s other outlets – including a wine bar, contemporary Chinese eatery, Japanese joint, & modern cafe – will emerge in Menara Lien Hoe in the months to come. Many thanks to the Marquee team for having us here.
