This laid-back cafe mainly welcomes folks from around the neighbourhood with crowd-pleasing fare (pizzas and pastas). But even if you’re not in Taman OUG, it’s worth checking out Chaplang, an overhaul of the former Butter + Beans – this is currently the sole venue that offers G-Lat, a new range of ice cream in playful Malaysian flavours, created by local brand Forty Licks.

Malaysian-flavoured ice cream

G-Lat’s entire assortment is tempting enough that choosing only one or two scoops might be tortuous – flavours include kaya toast, soursop, bandung, neslo, durian, or coconut + gula melaka (RM7 per scoop, RM15 for two, RM17 for three). Flavours are satisfying executed; everyone will have a personal favourite, but if a suggestion is desired, neslo and coconut gula melaka are notably tasty.

Customers can have four scoops on a dense, crispy pandan waffle with lots of kaya and bits of popcorn that’s named Bulatan Kampung Pandan (RM24) – a witty moniker befitting of a cool destination that dares call itself Chaplang Kafe.

The murals here are pretty cool too – kudos to the artist.
