Brasserie 25 at Hotel Stripes Kuala Lumpur: Restaurant review

The flagship restaurant of YTL’s latest luxury hotel is this French-inspired outpost in downtown KL, bringing a brick-and-copper burnish to the bailiwick of Chow Kit. Brasserie 25 at Hotel Stripes is a short stroll from lunchtime landmarks like Yut Kee and The Row, and it’s impeccably suited for business meals; the setting is inviting & the service is welcoming, befitting of a hotel that’s part of the global Marriott-linked Autograph Collection brand of boutique accommodations in culturally vibrant neighbourhoods.

French brasserie classics

The menu is a what’s-what roll call of French brasserie classics – the cassoulet of duck confit with lamb sausages and stewed white beans (RM60) hits hearty, heart-warming notes; have the hot-and-creamy baked camembert with black truffle paste (RM40) for a flavourful side. Alternatively, escargots, foie gras, chicken fricassee, braised beef cheeks and bouillabaisse beckon.

High tea

Fans of high tea will surely find their way here for savoury and sweet spreads (RM60 per person) – lift the lid on salty bites that merge French and Malaysian sensibilities, such as duck confit wontons, curry puffs and sambal-topped fries, followed by an eat-all-you-want sugar rush of tarts, petit-four-style cakes and madeleines.

Wash down with Cameron Highlands tea, caffe crema and European-motifed cocktails including the French Blonde (RM30, with Carpano Bianco vermouth, gin, elderflower and grapefruit).
