Ah Gong House at Taman Taynton View, Cheras: Restaurant review

Former kindergarten teacher Doreen has turned her family home (which originally belonged to her grandfather, explaining the name Ah Gong House) into a lovely hideout that functions as an informal music school on weekdays (focusing on the ukelele) and a very casual suburban coffee bar on Saturdays and Sundays, spearheaded with her illustrator partner, Lois.

Garden Egg Salad open sandwiches served on soft, textured bread (RM7), Doreen’s own-baked fruit cheesecakes (RM12), gently luscious drip coffee prepared with Rwandan beans (RM15) and cold-pressed juice made with an orange, an apple, half a lemon and organic mint leaves (RM12) – not a bad way to spend a weekend at all, with wholesome, honest fare such as this.
