5 Places to Visit for Seafood in KL and Selangor

By Benny Tan

Our contributing expert for this list is Benny Tan, founder of MySeafoodMart, a respected Malaysian online seafood delivery store. Benny and his family are extremely knowledgeable and stringent about seafood – they have more than two decades of experience in the industry, with a farm in Pulau Ketam that rears dragon groupers, and they also bring in other catch from their own fishing boats.

I like this place because their seafood is super fresh.

What to order: Steamed Razor Clam with Garlic. The simple preparation of the clams highlights the freshness & the natural sweetness of the clams. The restaurant is also known for its crabs in various preparations, such as salted egg & sweet-&-sour.

Address: 13575, Jalan Cempaka PJU 6A, Kampung Sungai Kayu Ara

Irresistible crabs (photo for illustration only)

This place has long been one of my family’s usual haunts. It’s been around since the 1970s, so it certainly has longevity on its side.

What to order: Chilli Crab & Steamed pomfret fish with meehoon soup.

We’re yet to find a place that is able to prepare Chilli Crab like this!

Address: 943, Jalan Letchumanan, Pandamaran

3. Restaurant Boston Baru, Klang

The extremely long queue and alfresco dining without air-conditioning might seem challenging, but the food is definitely worth the wait. One of the best, if not the best steamed lala in superior stock. Their Mantis Prawn with Nestum is also pretty good.

Seafood Medley, featuring pomfret a la meuniere, slipper lobster & clams with watercress puree & zucchini, at Restaurant DC in Taman Tun Dr Ismail

I like the design of the dining area & the ambience of the place. Their menu changes regularly, but seafood is always a priority, and a recent seafood medley featuring the Chinese pomfret was very good.

Address: 44 Persiaran Zaaba , 60000 Taman Tun Dr Ismail
