5 Indonesian Restaurants to Visit in KL and Selangor

Bumbu Bali, Puchong

Bumbu Bali is described as a contemporary Balinese restaurant that serves up all the familiar flavours. Their menu is comprehensive, ranging from appetisers meant for sharing like the Bali Trio (BBQ wings, sate lilit, and cumi-cumi goreng), all the way to desserts like Bubuh Injin (Balinese black glutinous porridge with fresh coconut milk and banana) and Es Campur (Balinese ice blended dessert with sago, jackfruit, banana, honeydew, watermelon, and sweet shredded coconut). Natrabu Minang, Bangsar

Located opposite Bangsar Shopping Centre, this is one for the Bangsar folks. Natrabu serves up Minang cuisine in a fine dining atmosphere. Guests can look forward to crowd favourites like Udang balado bersama kentang dan petai (prawn, potato, and petai sambal), Tempe terong balado cabe merah (tempeh and aubergine sambal with red chillies), and Paru goreng (deep-fried lungs). Dancing Fish, Bangsar

Dancing Fish opened not too long ago in Bangsar Shopping Centre. It serves cuisine from West Java, with dishes like Chicken satay with kerabu jantung pisang, Sup akar teratai (lotus root soup), and Buntut goreng enak with sambal trio, to name a few.

Waroeng Penyet, KL Sentral

How can we leave out ayam penyet when it comes to Indonesian food? Waroeng Penyet has branches in Nu Sentral, Mid Valley Megamall, The Curve, and Citta Mall, so pick the one most convenient for you. The menu comprises the standard penyet options – chicken, beef, or fish cooked in ‘penyet’ style or grilled. There are also accompaniments like soup, vegetables, and even Pete udang balado (sambal petai prawns).

Bumbu Desa, KLCC

One to check out when heading to KL, Bumbu Desa boasts over 30 varieties of Padang, Sunda, and Malay specialties. In fact, Tourism Indonesia bestowed the “Most Favourite Sundanese Restaurant” award to Bumbu Desa in 2010. Their menu includes the likes of Ayam cabai ijo, Tilapia mango, and Rendang daging as mains, and Pulut durian and Kolak biji salak as desserts. There’s also sets for four, or six to eight persons if catering for a larger group.
