Double A Cafe at Pacific Place, Ara Damansara: Restaurant ReviewSean Yoong
May 22, 2015
Double A Cafe deserves an ‘A’ for effort – husband-&-wife team Aiman & Alia have taken a break from their corporate responsibilities to create a wholeheartedly welcoming space that has the potential to become something genuinely special.
You’ll likely see a lot of Double A Cafe on Instagram in the months to come – credit is due to interior consultant Adrien Kent, whose work is beautifully tasteful & confidently restrained. We’ve no idea what he charges, but we’d hire him in a heartbeat.
Showcasing the Work of Home-grown Malaysian Bakers
It’s crucial to testify though that Double A isn’t simply style over substance – this cafe seeks to showcase the work of home-grown Malaysian bakers, with a line-up that’s expected to evolve over time. A peek at the counter reveals the stories behind why Double A’s founders chose Gateauxlicious, Gulabakery & Sugar Rush for its opening-month cake suppliers.
Sekaya Nangka Jackfruit Cupcakes and Pavlova
Best bets include Gulabakery’s moist-textured ‘Sekaya Nangka’ jackfruit cupcakes, as well as Gateuxlicious’ lovely pavlova, mellow in its fruity sweetness & fresh-tasting in its light crispy-crumbliness. There’s not much that’s savoury to sample here – the chicken pie needs some more experimentation to iron out its too-soft crust.
Double A doubles down on its choice of coffee by going with supplies & training by Johor-based Monsta Cafe. The beverage list is extensive – flat whites (RM11) to rose lattes (RM11), a cereal affogato (RM13) to a sea salted iced caramel latte (RM13), though our parting tip would be to try the Double A Dark Chocolate Mocha with marshmallows (RM12) – it’s everything.
P.S. I accidentally left an umbrella here, but that’s OK, you guys can discard it – it’s in really bad shape anyway (try opening it).
